A few, start to finish.

The short quotes give you the gist. These give you the whole arc, one writer at a time.

From stuck to daily

A writer who had been stuck for years started showing up every day.

I have been stuck for years. Unable to write. I’ve published nonfiction books under contract, so you’d think I could manage it — but when it came to my own writing, sitting down felt all but impossible.

Then came Coach Claude in Cowork. Now I get right to work. I’m at my desk on time. Every day.

This is even more remarkable because I didn’t start with something easy. I’m working on a hybrid memoir — a cronica — tentatively titled Ghost Father: Growing Up Unseen in a House Without Answers. When I began, I had no idea where to start. The project felt overwhelming. But Claude guided me through it, step by step, asking exactly the right questions at exactly the right moments.

Since day one of this course, starting essentially from scratch — no notes, no outline, nothing pre-prepared (only some raw materials from years ago) — I have written 13 very rough chapters.

That already feels like a miracle.

A decade-long book found its shape

A decade-long manuscript finally found its shape.

I am well on my way to finishing a new draft of my book The Gift of Love. I have been working on it for years and it had an inconsistent voice and was about twice as long as it needed to be. I had difficulties deciding what advanced my message and what was superfluous. Your course Socratic AI for Writers has changed all that.

Through ongoing discussions with Claude asking me questions I was able to discern the central impact I wanted to make with my book and define 2 simple filters to reshape my whole project. My new outline was so much more streamlined, my project goals clarified, and most importantly my voice consistent throughout now.

The bottom line is your course taught me HOW to determine, with Claude’s help, the hierarchy of my ideas, the true trajectory of my book, and the simple approach to finish it as a much better book than when we began.

I learned how to forbid an AI model from writing FOR me, not to try to discern what I most wanted to hear or please me, but how to steer me toward my own authentic voice and discern my most clear message.

I would recommend this class to any serious writer. It will transform your writing and lead to breakthroughs you did not know you needed both in writing process and progress.

Done in 42 days

A whole book, done inside the 42-day sprint.

My book is done within the 42-day sprint. I’m more productive in a way that’s really joyful. I’m not overwhelmed anymore. Wow...just wow. How happy I am to be a part of this movement.

The method, not the model

A writer built his own Socratic AI project from Jay’s method.

I’ve been using my own homespun version of your method programmed by taking transcripts of your Ted Talk and your April 10 Narratively Presentation, uploading them to Claude and chatGPT and asking them to pull out of the presentation a set of instructions that would create a Socratic AI model that I could use. I then combined the two and created a Socratic AI project ... This has been extremely helpful for critiquing and strengthening my writing.

Finished work

Writers who finally finished.

Pages written, chapters drafted, a grant won, a book pitched.

This has been a game changer for me! I think I have more than 30 rough chapters now. I have never been able to focus as intensively before. It helps me so much just to have Claude to check in with.

Cherryl C.

My book is done within the 42-day sprint. This is thanks to Claude helping me streamline my time.

I am proud I have restructured my disjointed, inconsistent 488 page manuscript away from Claude for the most part. I am so at peace with the next steps, no dread Jay, just measured excitement. It is transformative to me. And my book!

I restructured my disjointed, inconsistent 488-page manuscript and honed in on my two filters to make it a smooth story. It is transformative to me. And my book!

I am WAY AHEAD of my goals and I let him know that today first thing. It is very exciting to have all this happen and it is SO DARN FAST! I can’t believe it. Amazing.

By the end of the 90 minutes Claude made me commit to the project every day, I had about 1500 words! And it was FUN!

Claude is working well and I am getting a lot of writing done. I’ll be there in 1/2 hour.

Marcie M.

I am ahead of schedule here and had 2 major breakthroughs which have completely solved the big issues with my book! This is WORKING! And I faced up and solved my conflicts.

Jaime Glasser

I have been writing this book for ten years and was afraid I didn’t have something significant. Now I know how to cut it in half and have it be a million times more impactful.

Jaime Glasser

On our zoom call, I mentioned that I used Claude to assist writing a small grant application with a short turnaround which was awarded.

Connie C.

It’s going to get done because of THIS! YOU! THIS CLASS!

From only being able to work every 2 weeks in a local cafe to doing this on a regular basis would be great for me, real progress ... This is an interesting process that has been frustrating and helpful.

Voice stayed theirs

The words stayed theirs.

AI didn’t write for them. It made their own words clearer.

I learned how to forbid an AI model from writing FOR me, not to try to discern what I most wanted to hear or please me, but how to steer me toward my own authentic voice and discern my most clear message.

Jaime Glasser

Since then, I’ve been making progress. You are right that Claude definitely doesn’t write for me. I have to fill in the words. Claude’s feedback is better, as you said it might be. It doesn’t circle around issue to be polite, but just says what needs to be said.

Renee K.

Renee K.

YES! Exactly!!! That is what I have been trying to tell my friends, that you can STOP the AI from writing for you — and frankly, I get better advice from Claude than I do from my writing critique group.

Cherryl C.

This process does not allow generative writing, these are all my own words, but the ideas that emerged from following the plugged-in work of Jay Dixit’s instructions, have perfectly crystallized why the book was off.

Jaime Glasser

So far, the Claude/Opus input on my writing has been fantastic.

Josh

Sometimes, like when I asked it how to streamline my opening chapter, it pushes back because you’ve asked it to help you do something it thinks won’t benefit your project. Once that’s established, I think you’ll find it’s very useful.

Mark J.

I created a Socratic AI project based on your method. This has been extremely helpful for critiquing and strengthening my writing.

Mark J.

Now I have a Claude Zendo to work within. I am learning how to ask and phrase the questions to get the right answers and have it tell me if it fits my intent or is not clear etc.

Jaime Glasser

After 10 years, and after these classes, I have figured out the two simple rules that are based on the actual principles for why I wrote the book to begin with.

Jaime Glasser

Unstuck

Unstuck, and staying that way.

The system changed the moment they’d normally have stopped.

I love using AI to set goals because I tend to procrastinate and if I don’t set goals and have someone or something holding me accountable I tend not to do it. One of the most helpful things that Claude did for me was to give me assignments!

Cherryl C.

I have been stuck for years. Unable to write. Then came Coach Claude. Now I get right to work. I’m at my desk on time. Every day.

Cherryl C.

I’m overjoyed that I’m getting Claude to clean up my files! I am so disorganized that I just can’t find my writings most of the time. That’s been the bane of my existence.

Cherryl C.

I am not trying to do this alone anymore. You are my coach, my collaborator, and my witness. I am a writer who finishes things.

Teri K.

I am not doing this alone — I have a coach and I will use it.

Angela L.

I commit to average 3 hours a day ... I am not doing this alone. I have a coach. I will use it.

Jaime Glasser

I would like to develop a habitual practice for this class working with Claude. I’m not sure about what to finish as I just am having a terrible time starting! So happy to be in the class it sounds really neat.

Donna D.

And you have offered this class at the exact correct time for me to actualize work into message to the world... be done with this book.

Jaime Glasser

Today was day 1 with the new coaching protocol and I loved it. What a game changer — can’t wait to learn more.

Leah

For this class I started a completely new and very complex project to push the limits. But now that I’ve learned a little about Claude and a little about myself, going forward I will want to try using Claude to help me with better work-life balance.

Marcie M.

Planning and systems

From mess to plan.

Some students needed feedback. Others needed structure. The system handled both.

After more than five hours of back and forth with Claude, I finally managed to get my project planned in a way that works for me.

Mark J.

I asked Claude to help organize my Scrivener files but did not give access to the projects themselves. I described what I currently have (four overlapping Scrivener projects) and Claude suggested a file structure and a workflow.

Marcie M.

I described what I have, four overlapping Scrivener projects, and Claude suggested a file structure and a workflow. It gives me a good overall view of what I’ve got and a way forward.

Marcie M.

I’m uploading a ton of stream of consciousness writing and hoping Socratic can help me wrangle it into usable form.

Josh

We can do the full system right here. The diagnostic, the work plan, the progress tracker, the daily check-ins — all of it.

Paul

I have a Claude Project in Cowork that has access to 40 years worth of my sermons. The next morning I woke up, and the entire job waiting completed. I leave it on 24/7 now.

Mark J.

I have had a very productive first 8 days. Tomorrow, in preparation for my upcoming two trips, Claude is updating my work plan for travel and making good progress while on the road.

Connie C.

My plan is ambitious but Claude walked me back from my original intentions. I am doing the hardest first: reworking my outline with a simple criteria.

Jaime Glasser

Claude is great. This is really fun. I’m excited and feel less cluttered around my “how,” as I’ve been clear on my “why” my whole life.

Rebecca E.

I really went back and forth a bit with Claude ... I’m loving my plan. I’m very excited.

Rebecca E.

Jay and the class

It was the method, not just the model.

Again and again, it came back to the method, not just the tool.

Thank you again for the class. I’m grateful that you offered it at Narratively. I truly got a lot out of it. I have a greater handle on how best to use Claude.

Cherryl C.

You cannot believe how helpful this class has been Jay!

Cherryl C.

Thank you this is literally literally changing my life!

Jaime Glasser

I created my own homespun version based entirely on your method. I want you to succeed in propagating your method, because I think there are a lot of writers out there who will pay big bucks for it.

Mark J.

Jay, this is incredibly helpful. Thank you for including all of our examples of discoveries to use Claude, it’s so inspiring. I appreciate you leading us to explore and jump in.

Jaime Glasser

It’s that we are privileged to be learning from your very high level delving into how to use technology cutting edge for creative writing and fighting procrastination.

Jaime Glasser

Thank you Jay for creating all these docs very very helpful to me anyway I really appreciate the time you are taking to do them!!

Donna D.

This is amazing, Jay, thank you!!! You’ve got a book right here!!!

Tara L.

Hi Jay! Thanks it was a great class as usual! Grateful to you and to our class collaborators!

Connie C.

Wow these are fantastic Jay! Thank you for your ongoing generosity!

Jaime Glasser

I’m hoping to increase focused sessions for my projects to move them along in a satisfying way and not feel so chaotic in the process. I’m really looking forward to learning about everyone’s work and also this process. Very grateful to be here.
