My book is done within the 42-day sprint. I’m more productive in a way that’s really joyful. I’m not overwhelmed anymore. Wow...just wow. How happy I am to be a part of this movement.

The unfinished draft

Most writers die with their stories still in them.

The novel in the drawer. The book proposal you keep meaning to write. The essay you can’t seem to start, or can’t seem to end.

It’s not that they lack talent. Finishing is hard, and finishing alone is harder. You set the project down, fully meaning to come back to it. Then life happens.

Welcome to finishing school.

What Students Are Saying About Jay’s AI Coaching System

“Jay’s system” is the personalized AI writing coach students build and learn to use in Jay’s class.

I’d been stuck for years. Unable to write. I’d published nonfiction books under contract, so you’d think I could manage it, but when it came to my own writing, sitting down felt all but impossible. Then came Jay’s system. Now I get right to work. I’m at my desk on time. Every day. Starting from scratch, I now have more than 30 rough chapters.

The one rule

A coach, not a ghostwriter.

This isn’t about getting AI to churn out prose. It’s about using it as a writing partner that makes your own work better. Pro AI, anti slop.

What it does

  • Interview you to surface your own best ideas
  • Give specific, honest feedback on the words you actually wrote
  • Help you plan, unblock, and revise
  • Hold you accountable, day to day

What it never does

  • Write your prose
  • Generate your ideas
  • Replace your voice, your judgment, or a human editor

You write every word.

How it works

How the six weeks work.

Most workshops leave you inspired, and then life happens. This one is built to close that gap with structure, deadlines, and feedback.

1

Bring one real project

A book proposal, a memoir chapter, an essay, a novel, a newsletter, or a messy idea you’ve been circling for months.

2

Set a finish line

On day one we turn it into weekly milestones and daily assignments, ambitious enough to matter and clear enough to act on.

3

Do the work, together

Write daily on your own, meet weekly with me and a cohort of serious writers, and use AI to keep the momentum going.

What you will learn

Use AI to draw out your best work, then finish it.

Socratic interviewing

Multi-step interview sequences that pull your ideas, memories, and stories onto the page, so you sit down already knowing what you want to say.

A real feedback system

Ask where it’s boring, vague, or unclear. Judge what comes back, take what’s useful, and move a rough draft to something you’re proud of.

Unblocking in real time

Diagnose what is keeping you stuck and figure out what to do next, with me, the cohort, and a set of AI workflows to lean on.

The full setup

The practical workflows that let AI read and work with your actual project files, as a real part of how you write.

The last cohort

Writers who were stuck, now finishing.

Real messages from students in the last cohort.

You can STOP the AI from writing for you, and frankly, I get better advice from Claude than I do from my writing critique group.
Cherryl C.
I restructured my disjointed, inconsistent 488-page manuscript and honed in on my two filters to make it a smooth story. It is transformative to me. And my book!
Jaime Glasser
I used Claude to help write a small grant application with a short turnaround, which was awarded.
Connie C.
I described what I have, four overlapping Scrivener projects, and Claude suggested a file structure and a workflow. It gives me a good overall view of what I’ve got and a way forward.
Marcie M.
Claude definitely doesn’t write for me. I have to fill in the words. Claude’s feedback is better. It doesn’t circle around the issue to be polite, it just says what needs to be said.
Renee K.
I created a Socratic AI project based on your method. This has been extremely helpful for critiquing and strengthening my writing.
Mark J.

Beyond the classroom

By far the best presentation I’ve seen on how to actually use this stuff.
Nick Gillespie Editor, Reason Magazine
When I see the way Jay uses ChatGPT, I realize I’m using it at a caveman level.
Sherry Jeng Human Rights Foundation
I love the way Jay thinks about AI. He changed the way I think about AI.
John Jamesen Gould Founder and editor, The Signal; former digital editor, The Atlantic
You are my coach, my collaborator, and my witness. I am a writer who finishes things.

What you walk away with

Something real to show for the work.

Real progress on the project you care about, plus a system you keep using long after the class ends.

  • A real milestone on your project: a finished draft, a complete proposal, the first three chapters, whatever you set out to do.
  • The complete Socratic AI system for planning, drafting, revising, and finishing, for the rest of your writing life.
  • The quiet confidence that the work is authentically yours, just better and faster than you could manage alone.
  • The shift from someone working on a writing project to a writer who finishes things.
I would recommend this class to any serious writer. It will transform your writing and lead to breakthroughs you did not know you needed.

FAQ

A writing class, not a tech class.

Do I need to be technical?

No. If you can type into a chat box, you’ve got every skill you need. We handle the setup step by step, and the focus stays on the thinking and the writing.

Will AI write for me?

No. You write every word. AI is a sounding board, an interviewer, and an editor that draws out your ideas and gives you feedback. It’s never a ghostwriter.

What stage does my project need to be at?

Any stage. A blank page, a messy outline, or a draft you’ve been stuck on for months. On day one we find your starting line and set a realistic finish.

Which AI will we use?

Claude, ideally. It’s the strongest for this work and what the class is built around. ChatGPT or Gemini also work. Plan on a paid tier, about $20 a month, for the deep, iterative work.

What’s the format?

Weekly live sessions of two hours each, a system for using AI as an accountability coach, and a private community for support between sessions.

A Slack channel for questions, technical help, and shared progress.

Is enrollment open?

Your project has waited long enough.

You’ve got the talent, the ideas, and the stories. What’s missing is the system, the accountability, and the deadline to get them out of your head and onto the page. The next cohort is coming. Leave your email and you’ll be first through the door.
