Abstract
This study surveyed 319 knowledge workers to explore when critical thinking occurs during GenAI use and how GenAI affects cognitive effort. Participants contributed 936 examples of workplace GenAI usage. The research found that higher confidence in GenAI is associated with less critical thinking, while higher self-confidence is associated with more critical thinking.
